From the 11th until the 13th of November, the dean of the Kabul Medical University (KMU) has paid an official visit to the Netherlands. On the invitation of KEIHAN foundation, Prof. dr. Zarif had the opportunity to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation with the University of Leiden (UL) and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). To show his gratitude and to build on a long-standing cooperation between the universities, Prof. dr. Zarif had a meeting with the chairmen of the internationalization committee of LUMC Prof. Raap and the acting director International Office at UL mr. ‘t Hart. In addition a meeting was organized with the representatives of the medical students organisation (M.F.L.S.) of LUMC.
A special visit was paid to the Dutch Senate (Eerste Kamer), on the invitation of Senator Prof. J. A. Bruijn who has been a great support for KEIHAN’s cultural and academic exchange programs.
Currently, Prof. dr. de Ruiter, dr. Gobee and mr. Immerseel of the LUMC anatomy department are supporting the establishment of the KMU anatomy department, among others by setting up a media library. Prof. dr. Zarif was pleased to meet the anatomy department and anatomy museum in Leiden in order to discuss the future plans for capacity building in Afghanistan. In addition, constructive meetings were held with Prof. dr. van den Berg to discuss the possibility of providing training for the KMU intensive care unit and custom-fit hospital management courses.
